Karen Gleeson was born in Dublin, 1985. She attended Inchicore College of Dance, receiving her RAD teaching certificate for Classical Ballet, 2005. She then studied Science in University College Dublin.
She completed a Degree Course for Modern Dance and Physical Theatre in 2009. Two years at Fonty’s Dance Academy, Tilburg, Netherlands and the final year in Koninklijk Conservatorium, Opleiding Dans – Artesis Hogeschool, Antwerp Belgium.While studying abroad Karen worked with such choreographers as Liat Waysbort; Lisbeth Gruwez; Ivo Dimchev; Marlise McCormick; Stefan Baier and Teresa Ranieri.
In 2008 she joined The Q. Kyrie Dance Company, touring with, “The 10 Lives of Lady Rebella”, and participating in a dance film of the same title.
In 2009, Karen undertook an apprenticeship with, The Irish Modern Dance Theatre under the direction of John Scott.
Later that year she took part in a Blank Canvas residency in the Firkin Crane with Shakram Dance Company, to develop and create a new site-specific dance film.
In September 2010, Karen completed a Masters in Contemporary Dance Performance in University of Limerick, Ireland. Working with such choreographers as Mary Nunan; Liz Roche; Mairead Vaughan; Fearghus O’Conchuir; Colin Dunne; Elena Giannotti.
Her next goal is to travel to New York to take part in an internship with “Movement Research” organisation.
